Tonight we went to go look at the first of a couple condos I have designated as being "promising". This condo on paper rocked. One Bedroom, 900 sq. Ft., ginormous living room, decent sized bedroom... Itapos;s 3 miles away from where I currently live, meaning 3 miles closer to work. Cutting out a little traffic is a good thing. They had an indoor pool and a gym in the clubhouse which was also a good thing, meaning I didnapos;t have to rejoin a gym at some point. The neighborhood was decent and the price was right with average association fees.

Yeah, on paper it was beyond promising. I was practically moving in before I ever saw the place, because what could be wrong with all of that?

Oh goodness.. The things that could be wrong.

1) It smelled like a nursing home. You know, like musty old person and urine.
2) As soon as i walked in the first thing I saw was a 2 foot by 3 foot square cut out of the dry wall. This was going into the coat closet.. I guess they were looking to expand.
3) the Carpet had some huge stains on it in the living room. Unidentifiable, but Iapos;d probably want to do the CSI light trick with it to see if I could figure it out.
4) In the wall that wasnapos;t cut into, there were several holes the size of fists.
5) In the kitchen, it looked like someone had taken a razor blade to the linoleum.. Probably the same one they used on the wall.
6) The bathroom had no light fixtures... I would guess there were some at some point in time.
7) The bedroom carpet has some similar stains that i wasnapos;t going to guess at.
8) Did I mention the mold spot in the bedroom? Yes, it wasnapos;t really eau dapos;old person.. It was cat (or dog) accident not cleaned up and now molded over.
9) There were several walls that had water damage to them.. Meaning needing new dry wall.. Which kind of scared me seeing as it was a lower level unit.

The view wsa beautiful... There is a pond out front of the building, and it was full of swans and geese. The boys would love the window, it was a huge picture window But I wouldnapos;t let my animals in there right now they way it was.

My momapos;s advice.. Seeing as itapos;s listed as needing some "TLC" offer them 5,000 an dget some money to fix it up.

Iapos;m really not sure I could go there. Iapos;m not sure the carpet would be salvageable... And new carpet just isnapos;t feasible right now. Also, iapos;m not sure that it would help. The smell seemed to permeate the hallway too, which leads me to believe itapos;s not just that condo. It did seem like every resident we ran into was over 65.. Iapos;m sure thatapos;s a coincidence.

So first condo was a bit of a bust. Weapos;re going to look at a couple more on Monday. Itapos;s in a town that borders Ortonville, so Iapos;m trying to keep an open mind about them. Weapos;ll see I guess. I can at least hope that itapos;s nicer then what we looked at tonight.
