Preparing for the arrival of his twin daughters with wife Rebecca Romijn seems to be helping actor Jerry Oapos;Connell to grow up. "We cleared out a bedroom -- actually not a bedroom -- it was my aunt and uncleapos;s old stuff," Jerry, 34, told PEOPLE at Saturdayapos;s The Hills: A Staged Reading at Hollywoodapos;s Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. "I had my computer and video games in there. That got cleared out for the kids. So, Iapos;m wondering what Iapos;m going to do with my video game stuff. But, maybe that goes out the window when you have kids."

As for preparing the girlsapos; room, Jerry says the couple is "baby-proofing the house, but mostly getting the nursery ready. Weapos;ve got a couple cribs and stuff, so thatapos;s about it." Rebeccaapos;s mom Elizabeth is planning to move in with the pair, though Jerry says others have stepped up to lend a hand, too. "A lot of people are getting us ready for the first couple months," he shares.

Revealing that Rebecca is feeling "good," the actor told PEOPLE, "I think as a husband, you feel a little jittery because at this point you have to just be there to help out as much as possible. Get food, make sure all the DVDs are rented. Iapos;m sort of in a position where I have to assist at this point. So, itapos;s a little nerve-wracking in that sense that I canapos;t; as a guy you want to be the one thatapos;s carrying them. Youapos;re not."

The couple expects their daughters -- who are fraternal, Jerry says -- in January.
